I was enrolled in Adult Education classes and my reading scores were very low. My teacher asked me to contact the Literacy Council. Before I had a chance, the council was contacting me. I wanted to improve my reading to help me get through my GED classes and I wanted to be able to comprehend what I had read. So I started private tutoring with Ms. Linda one day per week.
It has helped improve my reading skills; it helps me on my job. It has helped me be able to help my son with his reading and homework. The ladies work with me at the council. If I can't make it because I need to work overtime, they are very understanding, yet encourage me to come another evening. I believe that by improving my reading skills I will someday own my own business.

I think it is very important to be able to speak English correctly. I was looking for a program to help me and my employees. I was led to the Literacy Council of Arkansas County by a very good customer who had heard about the ESL classes on the local radio. She called the council for me, the Director and a tutor came out and were able to set up a time that worked for us. We have class twice weekly from 2-4 p.m. in a room in the back of our restaurant. That is the slow time of the day for us and at present we have myself and two employees. I am encouraging all employees to join this class at least one day per week.
The program is helping me meet my goal for speaking better English, by having better communication skills. It has helped me on my job and in my everyday life. I appreciate being able to learn English as a second language.
